I am sure my Mum used to listen to this, I actually like the instrumental version of this and can quite happily hum along ...

"Housewives' Choice" the B. B. C.'s record request programme for Women at home, began in March 1946. It ran until 1967, the year of "Sergeant Pepper" and "Puppet on a string". Throughout those twenty-one years, the programme was introduced by Jack Strachey's signature tune "In Party Mood".

Now one of the world's most hummed-along-with themes is revealed for the first time as a song: an anthem dedicated to that great army of women whose flag is the yellow duster. It was used for the first time on radio as the theme tune for the recent Radio 2 series "When Housewives had the Choice ?" a programme which told the tale of those times and presented records that were requested and played on the original show. It was narrated by Russell Davies and Julie Covington and produced by Jonathan James-Moore.

In that time, there were companies set up within or structured brands as part of the company to deal with separate parts of the business, e.g. BBC Records for recorded audio. Sometimes written as BBC Enterprise Ltd.
