Reviews

Below is my review for this release and the ratings.
This is another BBC drama from abroad in hotter lands helping us Brits get used to other song styles! Actually this is another pleasant enough song. Once it starts you can think about a group playing this sort of song ...

From the BBC Soundtrack LP REB 487.

'The dark side of the sun' is a 6 part mystery by MIchael J. Bird, the author of 'The Lotus Eaters', 'Who pays The Ferryman ?' and 'The Aphrodite Inheritance'. The action is set on the island of Rhodes and concerns a photographer who goes there to illustrate a travel book. He dies in mysterious circumstances abd his young and attractive wife determines to carry on his work. This leads to an increasingly frightening series of supernatural incidents.

The series stars Emily Richard, Peter Egan, Patrick Mower, Christopher Scoular and Betty Arvaniti and is directed by David Askey and produced by Vere Lorrimer.

Stavros Xarhakos, who composed the sound track is one of Greece's leading composers and previously wrote the music for 'The Lotus Eaters'. For 'The Dark Side of the Sun' he has taken the folk music of Rhodes as Turkish fiddle; capturing the sunshine of the island, the sparkle of the water and the eternal romance of the Greek Islands.

Co-ordination - Bruce Talbot.

Further information

BBC Radio Enterprises Ltd and BBC Enterprises Ltd, predecessors of BBC Worldwide / BBC Worldwide Ltd., the BBC's commercial arm. Formed 1968 and 1979 respectively, they were a subsidiary wholly owned by the BBC and merged into BBC Worldwide in 1995. In that time, there were companies set up within or structured brands as part of the company to deal with separate parts of the business, e.g. BBC Records for recorded audio. Sometimes written as BBC Enterprise Ltd.

The items shown here are from the "main" BBC Records and Tapes library covering a wide secletion of genres from themes, comedy dramas and others, depending on which format you have selected.
