A1Hyde Park, Sunday morning, 1st November 1970. Introduced by Michael Frostick of BBC TV's 'Wheelbase' followed y John Bailey, President of the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain.
A2While cars manoeuvre for the start of the run George Evan Cook talks about his entry.
A38 a.m. and the first cars leave while two overseas visitors, George Shirk from the U. S. A. and Andre Van Ackeren talk about their interest. A 1903 Cadillac carrying Valerie Singleton, Joan Noakes and Peter Purves of the BBC TV Blue Peter team start up and departs.
A4George Thompson driving a 1904 Renault towards Westminster Bridge just before 9 a.m. describes the car and gives some of its history.
A5John Bolster, driving his 1903 Panhard-Levassor talks of the pleasure he gets from the Brighton Run.
A6Climbing hard - the following are heard in this order - Entry 222, a 1904 De Dion Bouston Tonneau, entry 82, a 1901 Delin Voiturette, entry 266, a 1904 Curved Dash Oldsmobile, entry 109, a 1902 De Dion Bouston Tonneau, entry 50, a 1900 Marot-Gardon Tonneau, entry 215, a Darracq two seater.
A7George Thompson continues talking as he drives towards Redhill - nearly half way between London and Brighton. Gerry Northam of BBC Radio Stoke-on-Trent was a passenger in his car and made these recordings en route. The wind noise was unavoidable as there was very little protection.
A8Arrivals enjoying refreshments provided by a Redhill garage whose manager is Ted Norston.
B1The Blue Peter Cadillac fills up with petrol and sets off on the second half of the Brighton run.
B2The Open Road - the following cars are heard in this order - Entry 202, a 1903 Winton two seater, entry 296, a 1904 Eolseley two seater, entry no 47, a 1900 Georges Richard Dog Cart, entry no. 125, a 1902 Panhard-Levassor two seater, entry 295, a 1904 Vulcan Tonneau, entry 100, a 1901 Royal England Quadricycle Fore-car, entry 27, an 1899 International Benz two seater, entry 17 an 1899 Benz Dog Cart, entry 147, a 1903 De Dion Bouton Tonneau. Interviews by Alan Smith.
B3George Thompson encounters heavy traffic south of Gatwick and has some difficulty starting up on a hill. David Tuckfield, a passenger in the car, comments on the closing stages of the run.
B4Gerry Northam describes the last stage of the run as he approaches the finishing line and David Tuckfield sums up his own feelings.
B5Anthony Marsh over the loudspeaker at the finishing line on Madeira Drive announces some arrivals including no. 22, an 1899 Daimler driven by Lord Montagu.
B6As 4 o'clock approaches the Blue Peter car is delayed by traffic and Anthony Marsh tells the crowd about it - meanwhile 4 miles away the team get anxious but arrive with one minute to spare.
B7David Tuckfield analyses his interest in the event and Entry No 159, a 1903 Georges Richard Landaulette protests loudly as it is coaxed on to the trailer which will take it home.
B8Summing up - Michael Frostick, two spectators, David Tuckfield, George Thompson, another spectator and John Bolster - with Entry No. 27 struggling up the slope at the eastern end of Madeira Drive on its way home.
