Reviews

Below is my review for this release and the ratings.
I didn't really watch this one, but I did really like the theme. It was one I tried to have next to my bed so it reminded me how this music went if I couldn't think of a better song to hum!

Maggie Garrard

'Diana' an enthralling story of youthful romance maturing into adult passion, from the best selling author R. F. Delderfield, concerns itself with two young people for whom different social positions create a poignantly frustrated love.

From their teenage years in the 1930's up until their late twenties during the Second World War, we follow the emotional fortunes and failures or orpan John Leigh and Diana Gaylorde-Suttons, she spoilt and privileged, he determined to beter his lot in life by becoming a newspaper reporter.

Clandestine meetings, family disapproval, difficulty and desperation do nothing to alter their intention nor can anything prevent the consummation of their love on Diana's 18th birthday. Financial ruin for Diana's family inevitably leads to a seperation, apparently finalised by Diana's marriage to another whilst in France.

The outbreak of war with all its cruelty and chaos, nevertheless creates the circumstances of their reunion, when they both find themselves working for the French Resistance, and, though we and they consider all obstacles to their marriage now dispersed by time, the story has an ironic twist.

Further information

BBC Radio Enterprises Ltd and BBC Enterprises Ltd, predecessors of BBC Worldwide / BBC Worldwide Ltd., the BBC's commercial arm. Formed 1968 and 1979 respectively, they were a subsidiary wholly owned by the BBC and merged into BBC Worldwide in 1995. In that time, there were companies set up within or structured brands as part of the company to deal with separate parts of the business, e.g. BBC Records for recorded audio. Sometimes written as BBC Enterprise Ltd.

The items shown here are from the "main" BBC Records and Tapes library covering a wide secletion of genres from themes, comedy dramas and others, depending on which format you have selected.
