Reviews

Below is my review for this release and the ratings.
This is a spooky song, I guess as many may think the Adfrican state having lots of secrets still to be found. I am not sure the music quite reminds me of when I visited!

The Cleopatras

Philip Mackie's highly original and entertaining scrips follow careers of the line of Cleopatras who dominated the latter part of the Ptolemy Dynasty (C. 145 - 33 B.C.) culminating in the last and most notorious of them all, Cleopatra VII - mistress to both Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony.

Her story has passed into legend. Her lesser known ancestors were also in their own way just as remarkable women - all relentlessly determined to retain power in the face of growing strength of the Roman Empire.

The series is written by Philip Mackie, directed by John Frankau and produced by Guy Slater.

Nick Bocat
Nick Bocat's compositions include the themes from the following productions: 'Love Story' (BBC), 'The Irish RM' (Channel 4), 'Nobody's Hero' (Thames), 'Oliver Twist / Scarlet Pimpernel' (CBS - USA).

In 1977 he received an Ivor Novello Award for Best British Musical 'Teech 'n' Smiles'.

In his highly original composition for The Cleopatras he has used a wide selection of instruments ranging from the conventional rhythm section of guitar, piano, bass and drums to the exotic sounds of Turkish Bagpipes, Chinese Membrane Flute, Piccolo Trumpet, Bouzouki and Synthizer.

In that time, there were companies set up within or structured brands as part of the company to deal with separate parts of the business, e.g. BBC Records for recorded audio. Sometimes written as BBC Enterprise Ltd.

The items shown here are from the "main" BBC Records and Tapes library covering a wide secletion of genres from themes, comedy dramas and others, depending on which format you have selected.
