Funds raised for this record will be used for relief and development work by five British charities - British Red Cross, CAFOD, Christian Aid, Oxfam and Save the Children Fund. These charities come together as the disasters emergency committee for launch appeals after major disasters overseas and funds raised are shared equally between them. All programmes they fund are administered by their own field teams or by local partner organisations so as to ensure that help reaches those most in need. As well as providing emergency aid such as food, water supplies, seeds and farm tools, they are supporting longer term programmes in agriculture, soil and water conservation and health which are vital elements in the struggle to build themselves a better future.For further information write to: Disasters Emergency Committee, P O Box 999, London.
