Synopsis

The Doctor has returned Tegan to 1981 - the right time, but the wrong place.

The TARDIS has landed on a massive spaceship our days away from Earth. it is the domain of Monarch, a scientific genius of almost god-like power. Monarch rules over three billion of his species, as well as a group of apparently immortal humans from Earth's history. What part has he played in Earth's past, and what are his plans for its future? Will he save humanity from itself; or be its destroyer?

It's four to doomsday, and the Doctor has no time to lose finding out.

Background

What would the new Doctor Who be like? After seven years as the Doctor, Tom Baker was always going to be a hard act to follow. As the fifth and youngest actor to play the role, Peter Davison faced a seemingly impossible challenge in making the character his own.
Doctor Who producer John Nathan-Turner decided to help Davison settle into the part by recording is second broadcast story, Four to Doomsday, first. the public got a hint of what was to come at his first photo call in costume, which took place during the shooting of Four to Doomsday in April 1981. Davison's cricketing outfit and demonstration of his battling skills announced his fresh, energetic approach to the role.
With Four to Doomsday, Doctor Who began to find its feet again following a period of flux. A studio-bound and relatively static tale, it gave the regular characters space to develop. After the complex story arcs of the previous season, the Doctor was getting back to basics, travelling through time and space fighting evil. Normal service had been resumed.
Saturday Night at the Mill - Includes Sandra Dickinson.
