Extra notes on cover, middle (gatefold sleeve) and any inserts

From the very beginning of Doctor Who the music and sound effects - whether if be the TARDIS landing or the firing of a Dalek gun - have been integral to the programme's success. Indeed, for millions of people just the signature tune to the program is enough to take them back in time to the days when it was watched from behind the sofa!

This unique collection has been compiled to celebrate Doctor Who's 30th anniversary and includes music and sound effects covering the entire three decades of the programme, from episodes such as The Dalek invasion of Earth and The web of fear right up to Shada and the new Radio Five dramatisation, Paradis of death.

It features all the favouritesas well as some previously 'lost' pieces including The Delaware version of that Signature Tune.

Compared to the expanses of time travelled by the Doctor, the segment occupied by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop therein is but a mere data byte or two within the Gallifreyan Central Records Matrix. However, without the Workshop, television audiences the world over would not have thrilled to the familiar strains of Ron Grainer's original signature tune, nor chilled to the staccato sentences uttered by the malevolent Daleks.

To celebrate the 30th anniversay of Doctor Who, this retrospective collection of sounds and music has been retrived from ther Workshop's own recording banks; from the very beginning, the Workshop was involved in every adventure, providing special sounds for those extraterrestial situations and internal mental aberrations which were to be almost normal day time occurances to the Doctor and his many companions.

The speed is very wide ranging and many of the earliest threats will come alive again, bringing back memories of 'from behind the sofa viewing' for many. As well as the sounds, the Workshop contributed several seasons of incidental music and this collection contains 'lost music' that was unwittingly omitted from earlier collections. Here too are several versions of that Signature Tune, including some apparently obligatory updateed versions which were usher in each new season, not all of which found favour!

Brian Hodgson and Dick Mills provided all the special sounds for the entire series, whilst Delia Derbyshire created (or 'realised' as we like to say) the audible theme from Ron Gainer's original score. Peter Howell transformed the Theme at the time of the Workshop's total commitments of sounds and incidental music, whilst Elizabeth Parker can now hold her head a little higher with this eventual release of her incidental music for 'Timelash'.
